At HCRS, we know there’s no single path to wellness—and definitely no perfect timeline. That’s why we’ve launched a brand new Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in Springfield designed to meet people where they are, without judgment or pressure. Whether someone is navigating relapse prevention, building new routines, or just starting to consider making a change, this program was created with them in mind.

Meeting People Where They Are

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. The IOP is rooted in flexibility, harm reduction, and the understanding that change can look different for everyone. The program provides a minimum of 9 hours of clinical care per week, offered over at least 10 weeks. That time is spent in a mix of small group sessions and one-on-one support, with the entire experience shaped around each participant’s goals and needs. From developing wellness strategies and coping skills, to exploring mindfulness and repairing relationships, the IOP focuses on real tools that can make a real difference.

Jaime Paterno, Area Manager of Adult Mental Health and Substance Use at HCRS, says that’s exactly the point. “We created this program because there’s no one right way to heal. Support doesn’t have to be all or nothing—it can be compassionate, flexible, and tailored to each person’s path. We adjust and evolve based on what people need, because care should work for them, not the other way around.”

Designed for Real Life

Sessions take place in person at our Springfield office, and while we welcome adults from across the region, participants will need to be able to travel to that location for services. Originally developed for those involved in the DUI Docket Program, the IOP is now available to any adult in need of substance use support—no court connection required. People can be referred by their current HCRS provider or reach out directly through the HCRS Access Line.

A Team That Truly Cares

What really sets this program apart is the team behind it. Led by Jaime Paterno, the IOP is staffed by a caring and knowledgeable group including Alena Pardoe (a newly AAP-certified Case Manager III), Ingrid Sell (Clinician II), and Jess Weiner (Clinician I), with a new clinician joining soon and the ongoing support of the full HCRS clinical team. Their collective mission is simple: to offer support when people need it—whether they’re ready today or still finding their footing.

Ready When You Are

If you or someone you know is looking for a safe space to explore positive change, we’re here. No expectations. No pressure. Just people who care, and a program that’s designed to help you move forward in your own way.
