At HCRS, we believe that every workplace has the power to be inclusive, empowering, and transformative. This October, we celebrated that belief at our 3rd Annual Developmental Services Employer Award Luncheons, where we honored 72 local businesses for their dedication to creating disability-inclusive workplaces.
Held in Windham and Windsor counties, these weren’t just any events—they were moments of gratitude and inspiration. Employers, community partners, and HCRS staff came together to recognize the incredible work being done to foster equity and accessibility in the workplace.
A Message of Gratitude and Collaboration
“Our community plays a crucial role in ensuring access to good jobs for all,” said Jennifer Merrill, HCRS DS Employment Manager, who helps to organize these events each year. “These luncheons celebrate employers who make a transformative impact on the lives of our clients. Together, we create a network of support that helps people of all abilities thrive.”
Attendees heard inspiring stories from employees thriving in inclusive work environments, showcasing the profound impact these employment practices have on lives and communities. Alicia White, Regional Manager for HireAbility, delivered a compelling message about the importance of breaking down barriers to create workplaces where everyone can contribute and feel valued.
Honoring Outstanding Contributions
Each honored employer received an award recognizing their commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion through accessible workplace modifications, meaningful job opportunities, and ongoing employee support.
Two special awards highlighted extraordinary efforts:
- Youth Impact Award: Presented to DeCamp Waste Services and Vermont State Parks for inspiring young people with a disability to join the workforce and begin building experience.
- Adult Employment Award: Presented to Allen Brothers Farm Market and Price Chopper for their dedication to inclusive hiring practices.
These businesses exemplify how inclusivity can create opportunities for personal growth and community connection, aligning perfectly with HCRS’ mission.
Looking Ahead
These luncheons are more than celebrations—they’re calls to action. HCRS is proud to partner with local businesses to champion disability inclusion and encourage others to join the movement. Together, we can build a workforce where everyone has a place to thrive!
